CYPRUS SMOKING BAN GETS GO-AHEAD

The Cyprus Government has voted to approve a new law banning smoking
in all public places, including restaurants, bars and nightclubs, with
fines for up to €2,000 for those lighting up.
The House vote was 27-3 with one abstention.
The law is set to come into effect in January 2010, although amendments
could be made to the proposed bill between now and November of this
year.
Anyone who smokes in an area where it is prohibited faces a fine of upto
€2,000.
